North Randolph, Vt. — Marilyn E. Ferris, 82, died Sunday, March 11, 2017, at her home in North Randolph. She was born Jan. 19, 1935, in Brooklyn, N.Y. the daughter of Randall and Viola (Hilker) Mowatt. Her family moved to Royalton, Vt. in 1948 where she attended school and graduated in 1951 from South Royalton High School, at the age of 16.

On Aug. 2, 1952, she married Oscar Ferris of North Randolph. They lived a few years in Royalton before moving to his family’s farm in North Randolph in 1959. Together they ran the farm and raised six children. They were married for 62 years before his death on Sept. 13, 2014.

She enjoyed thrift shopping, gardening, canning, knitting, sewing, crocheting, making pickles and traveling. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Gifford Medical Center Thrift Store in Randolph, Vt. Marilyn and Oscar enjoyed travel in their later years, going on many bus trips and an Alaskan Cruise.

She is survived by five sons, Donald Ferris of Braintree, Vt., Douglas Ferris of Tunbridge, Vt., David Ferris of Randolph, Randy Ferris of Fairfax, Vt. and Gary Ferris of North Randolph; a daughter, Amy Patch of Walpole, N.H.; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband she was predeceased by a great-grandson, Derrick Ferris and a brother, Randall Mowatt.

Calling hours will be held, Saturday, March 18, 2017, at 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home, 300 VT RT 110, Chelsea, Vt. A graveside service will be held later this spring in the East Randolph Cemetery, East Randolph, Vt.
