Haverhill — More than 400 voters braved the snow on Tuesday to oust a sitting member of the Selectboard and to continue the town manager form of government.

A voter-initiated petition — which asked “Do you favor continuation of the Town Manager plan as now in force in this Town?” — came one year after longtime Manager Glenn English retired from the post and then-Finance Director Jo Lacaillade was hired to replace him. The article received 281 yes votes, while 124 voted no.

The Selectboard race saw three candidates jockeying for two positions. Fred Garofalo, a retired engineer and transfer station manager, won 260 votes, and will join retired professor Tom Friel, who retained his seat on the board with 259 votes.

The other incumbent selectman, woodworking company co-owner Darwin Clogston, finished a distant third with 166 votes.

Mary Bigelow was elected unopposed to the post of trustee of trust funds with 389 votes.
