LSU, UMass Fire Coaches
Baton Rouge, La. — LSU director of athletics Joe Alleva announced that basketball coach Johnny Jones has been fired after five seasons.
The Tigers completed their worst season in 50 years on Wednesday with a 79-52 loss to Mississippi State in a first-round game in the SEC Tournament. LSU finished 10-21 overall, including a 2-16 league mark.
Derek Kellogg was fired as Massachusetts’ basketball coach.UMass athletic director Ryan Bamford announced the move, which came after the Minutemen finished 15-18 this season.
The team was 155-137 overall in nine seasons under Kellogg and just 67-83 in Atlantic 10 play.
The lone NCAA appearance by the Minutemen during Kellogg’s tenure was in 2013-14 when they went 24-9.
