Tunbridge, Vt. — Emily A. Howe, 92 died on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 at the Genesis Elder Care Facility in Lebanon, NH just hours before her 93rd birthday.

She was a leap year baby, born on Feb. 29, 1924 in Tunbridge, Vt. the daughter of Frank L. and Florence H. (Boulter) Rogers.  She attended school at the one-room school house #3 on Potash Road in Tunbridge and later South Royalton, Vt. where she graduated in 1941 from South Royalton High School. 

On Sunday, June 13, 1948 she married Ernest L. Howe of Tunbridge. They lived all their married life in Tunbridge where they raised their five children.

Emily worked at G.W. Plastics, the Eastern States Exposition in the Industrial Building, Dreamland Dance Hall in Tunbridge and made maple candies at Shorty’s Sugarhouse in Royalton.  She was also a busy homemaker and always had a project she was working on. 

She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, the South Tunbridge Ladies Aid and the South Tunbridge Methodist Church.  She was a 4-H leader (particularly for boy’s cooking and outdoor life), a founding member of the Saturday Sewing Circle of Tunbridge, plant sale helper for the Memorial Day Tunbridge Library sale and helper for the annual Tunbridge Church Sugar-on-Snow party.  She enjoyed puzzles, knitting, crocheting, sugaring, flowers, gardening, cooking, baking, reading, berry and apple picking, canning and making jams and jellies.  Emily also enjoyed transporting children to games and school functions and entering her cooking/baked goods in Floral Hall at the Tunbridge World’s Fair where she won many blue ribbons.

She is survived by her three sons, Edward Howe (Nancy) of Tunbridge, Vt., Randall Howe (Robin) of Claremont, N.C. and Arnold Howe of Post Falls, Idaho; two daughters, Elaine Howe of Tunbridge, Vt. and Janette Ducey of Berkshire, Vt.;  7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Howe who died March 24, 2004 and three brothers, Reeve Rogers, Stanley Rogers and Richard “Joe” Rogers.

There will be no public calling hours.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. at The Tunbridge Church in Tunbridge, Vt. with Rev. Jo Shelnutt and Rev. Deadra Ashton officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either:  The Tunbridge Food Shelf, P.O.
