Petersburg, Va. — Lendell James Higley, 69, of Petersburg, Va. died Wednesday, Feb. 22 2017. He was born on Feb. 17, 1948, in Northfield, Vt. He graduated from Hartford High School in 1967. He then entered the U.S. Army where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.

Later in life he served in the U.S. Naval Reserve Seabees for many years. He graduated with an associate degree from The Culinary Institute of America New Haven Conn in 1971.

He retired in 2009 from the DSCR Police Department Richmond Va., after 35 years of Civil Service.

He enjoyed camping and traveled across the USA in his motor home.

He was predeceased by his mother, Jeannette Dubuque and father Gilbert Higley. Lendell is survived by his wife of 48 years, Doris Cloutier Higley of Petersburg Va.; his son, Dr. Jamie L. Higley and wife, Suzanne of Powhatan, Va.; two sisters, Linda Stickney and husband, Morris of Woodstock, Vt. and Sheila Hathorn and husband, Brian of White River Jct., Vt.; four grandchildren, Malia, Gillian, Zoe, and Harley of Powhatan, Va; nephew, Bruce Hathorn; and niece, Bindy Hathorn.

A private memorial service was held in Petersburg.
