Tunbridge Woman Will Help Lead Transition at APD

Lebanon — Maryann Caron, of Tunbridge, has been promoted to associate vice president of operations and population health for Alice Peck Day’s new multi-specialty clinic, which is expected to open sometime next winter.

In the newly created role Caron will work with Dr. Dale Vidal, the clinic’s executive director, to oversee the transition of outpatient services into the new building. The work will involve standardizing core clinical processes, redesigning processes for efficiency and effectiveness, and establishing common operational, financial, and quality metrics, according to an APD news release.

“We are excited about our move to the (clinic) and look forward to continuing our planning with Maryann on board,” Vidal said. “She has a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will help us better serve our patients and support our providers and staff as well.”

Caron joined APD in 2011 as the sole member of the quality department responsible for patient safety and quality improvement. Under her leadership, the new department grew to include two quality improvement specialists, a data analyst and an infection preventionist, the release said. Its focus has been data-driven analysis, process improvement, outcome measures and patient satisfaction.

Caron was later promoted to assistant vice president of population health, quality improvement and project management at APD. Prior to joining the hospital, she worked for five years at M2S, an Upper Valley biotech firm, most recently as director of operations for vascular and clinical trials.

She holds a master’s degree in public health from The Dartmouth Institute and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Swarthmore College. She earned a Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt through Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth.

DHMC Official Is ‘CMO to Know’

Lebanon — Dr. Maria D. Padin, chief medical officer of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, has been named to the Becker’s Hospital Review list of 100 Hospital and Health System CMOs to Know for 2017.

The list features national physician leaders dedicated to strengthening their hospitals and health systems’ patient safety and quality initiatives, and who continue “to push the envelope and establish high standards for their facilities,” according to the magazine’s website. Becker’s editorial team accepts nominations for the list and selects honorees through an editorial review process.

An obstetrician-gynecologist by training, Padin has been CMO at DHMC since November 2015. She had previously worked at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Concord, where she was medical director. Prior to that, she was chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at D-H Concord.

Padin sits on the boards of the Concord-based Endowment for Health, Cheshire Medical Center and Mount Ascutney Hospital. She previously served on the medical executive committee at Concord Hospital.

She earned her medical degree at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College.

Good Neighbor Health Clinic Adds Nurse Practitioner

White River Junction — Elissa Close, a board certified family nurse practitioner, has joined Good Neighbor Health Clinic as case manager and primary care provider.

Having a nurse practitioner on staff will provide a high level of support to patients, staff members and volunteer physicians, and enable the clinic to grow its programs, according to a news release from the nonprofit. Close is responsible for coordinating patient care, overseeing clinic operations and providing direct care to qualifying patients in the Upper Valley.

A founding member of Mountain Health Center in Bristol, Vt., and former volunteer at Open Door, a free clinic in Middlebury, Vt., and Good Neighbor Health Clinic, she is “a welcome addition,” the release said.

Close grew up in the Upper Valley and studied at the University of Vermont, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1977, and a master’s degree in nursing in 2004.

She practiced at Springfield (Vt.) Hospital, Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital and White River Junction VA Medical Center, and in the 1980s moved to Vermont’s Addison County, where she and her husband lived for 30 years.

During that time, she worked for UVM Medical Center in a variety of staff and managerial roles and volunteered in a number of governmental and civic organizations, the release said.
