Durham, n.h. — Six different first-place finishes helped the Hanover High boys swimming team to a second place finish in Saturday’s New Hampshire Division II state championship meet.

Oyster River won the D-II boys title with a total team score of 296.5. Hanover’s runner-up total was 266.5. Lebanon followed in sixth place out of 22 teams with a total of 89 points.

Derryfield and St. Thomas tied for the girls title with scores of 172. Hanover took fourth at 159 and Lebanon was sixth with 82 points.

Kristian Hansen helped the Marauders to four of their six first-place finishes in the boys competition, winning a pair of solo events while anchoring a pair of relay victories. Hansen won the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 43.10 seconds and also won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:33.61. The Marauders also had solo victories from Kai Renshaw in 1-meter diving and Jack Wadsworth in the 100-yard backstroke (53.24) seconds.

Hanover won the boys 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:34.85 with the team of Atticus Kangas, Christopher Rieseberg, Ethan Adner and Kristian Hansen. The Marauders also won the 400-yard freestyle relay with Wadsworth, Erik Hansen, Atticus Kangas and Kristian Hansen.

Wadsworth added a third-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley. Rieseberg was third in the 100-yard breaststroke and fourth in the 200-yard individual medley. Kangas took fourth in the 100-yard freestyle and Benjamin Hoffer added a fifth-place finish in 1-meter diving.

Amelia Wallis led the fourth-place Hanover girls with a win in 1-meter diving. Teammate Hazel Gar-
rity-Hanchett took second in the same event. Grace Wenger added a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.76 seconds. The Marauders were third in the 400-yard freestyle relay with the team of Mikayla Johnson, Margaret Wenger, Grace Wenger and Norina Manetsch and fourth in the 200-yard medley relay with Grace Wenger, Manetsch, Eliza Rodi and Margaret Wenger.

Manetsch added a fourth-place showing in the 200-yard individual medley and fifth in the 100-yard breastroke.

Lebanon had a pair of first-place finishes to help the boys and girls teams both finish sixth overall. Scott Shepherd won the boys 100-yard butterfly in 57.20 seconds. Catherine Gavell took the top spot in the girls 50-yard freestyle in 23.72 seconds.

Shepherd added a second place finish in 22.79 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and Andrew Han was fourth in the 100-yard backstroke. The Raiders added two fourth-place finishes in boys relays with Han, Shepherd, Joah Moss and Jack Molloy in the 200-yard medley relay and Han, Moss, Molloy and Shepherd in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Gavell added a second-place finish in 58.69 seconds in the girls 100-yard butterfly. Kayla Davis took third in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.90 seconds.

Girls team scores: Derryfield 172, St. Thomas 172, Oyster River 168, Hanover 159, Souhegan 99, Lebanon 82.

Boys team scores: Oyster River 296.5, Hanover 266.5, Windham 132, St. Thomas 108, Souhegan 102, Lebanon 89.

Boys Basketball

Hartford 55, Fair Haven 46

Fair Haven, Vt. — The Hurricanes closed the fourth quarter on a 12-2 run to pick up their biggest win of the season.

“Every guy who played today did really well. We’re finally turning the corner and heading in the right direction. We’ll keep working and go on to the next one,” Hartford coach Steve Landon said.

Landon credited the ball distribution of Triston Potter (six points) as a key to the game.

Keith Illingworth led the Canes with 13 points. Hunter Gaudette added 11 and Gavin Farnsworth had 10 points.

Fair Haven (9-5) can into the game in fifth place in the Vermont D-II standings. Hartford (6-7) has won two straight and will visit Windsor on Tuesday.

Stevens 64, Fall Mountain 48

Langdon, n.h. — Parker Smith had his second 20-plus point game in as many days, scoring 23 to lead the Cardinals over the Wildcats.

Smith drained five 3-pointers. Zach O’Brien added 10 points and 11 rebounds. Nick O’Brien had 13 points and Henri Bourque had nine. Stevens took control by outscoring Fall Mountain 20-5 in the second quarter.

The Cardinals (12-2) visit Kearsarge on Tuesday.

U-32 78, Oxbow 36

Bradford, Vt. — The Raiders built a 42-16 lead at halftime and cruised over the Olympians (6-10).

Orin Mahikoa led Oxbow with 11 points. Ben Emerson and Skylar Ladd each had eight points. The Olympians host Harwood on Tuesday.

Bridgton 67Kimball Union 49

Bridgton, Maine — The Wolverines went on an 11-2 run late in the second half to pull away from the Wildcats.

Jordan Huntley led KUA with 14 points, including a 7-for-8 performance from the free throw line. Trent Noordsij added 11 points. KUA hosts Gould on Monday.

Websterville 67Mid Vermont Christian 41

Barre, Vt. — The Eagles (2-13) couldn’t keep pace with an explosive Websterville team.

Josh King led MVCS with 16 points. Jake Roberts added 11. The Eagles host Vermont Commons on Wednesday.

Girls Basketball

Lebanon 38, Goffstown 35

Lebanon — The Raiders capped a busy stretch of three games in four days, holding on to beat the Grizzlies.

“It was a classic trap game,” Lebanon coach Tim Kehoe said. “We were tired, but we still got it done and pulled it off at the end. That’s the sign of a good team.”

The Raiders had a 14-point lead in the second half, only to see Goffstown make it a one-point game late in the fourth quarter.

Kehoe praised the defensive work of Josie Brown, who helped hold Grizzlies’ leading scorer, Kelly Walsh, to seven points.

Brown and Anna Wolke each had nine points. Maddie Hastings added eight points and Joslin Wainwright had six. The Raiders (15-1 overall, 14-0 NHIAA) start a three-game road stretch when they visit Kingswood (10-3 NHIAA) on Tuesday.

Blue Mountain 48South Royalton 38

Wells River, Vt. — The Royals turned it on offensively to close within striking distance of the Bucks in the second half.

SoRo managed just nine points in the first half and then erupted with 29 after the break, including 18 in the fourth quarter. Emma Hudson had 15 points to lead the Royals. Bailey Wing added seven and Iris Hudson had six.

“For us to score 18 in the fourth quarter is unheard of. We’re usually not a second-half team when it comes to putting up points. They never gave up, so I’m proud of them,” Royals coach Dave Davis said.

South Royalton (5-8) visits Craftsbury on Friday.

Williamstown 45Rivendell 35

Orford — The Raptors (10-4) had trouble attacking the basket but managed nine 3-pointers in a losing effort against the Blue Devils (11-4).

“We didn’t do what we usually do well, and that’s defense,” Rivendell coach Hank Tenney said. “We didn’t go to the basket. Overall, it was definitely not our typical game. Just didn’t gel today. (Williamstown) played great and they have a nice team.”

Mikayla DeBois led Rivendell with 14 points and eight rebounds. Riley Thomson added 12 points, five steals and four rebounds. The Raptors host Sharon on Monday.

Fall Mountain 44, Stevens 27

Langdon, n.h. — The Cardinals were undone by a scoreless third quarter while playing for the second straight day.

“Playing back-to-back days is never fun, you could tell we were tired. But other than the third quarter, we held with them,” Stevens coach Ivy Condon said.

Sydney Miller had nine points, including a pair of 3-pointers, to lead the Cardinals. Stevens (6-10) closes the regular season at Gilford on Tuesday and at Newport on Friday.

West Rutland 67Whitcomb-Rochester 22

West Rutland, Vt. — The Golden Horde (12-1) led 34-9 at halftime in dispatching the Mountaineers (4-11).

Hayley Mears led Whitchester with 11 points. The Mountaineers visit Blue Mountain on Wednesday.

Kimball Union 62, Cushing 51

Meriden — Taylor Soule erupted for 32 points to lead the Wildcats over Cushing.

Christina Ryan added 17 points for KUA, which hosts Brewster Academy on Wednesday.

Boys Hockey

Hartford 7, Lyndon 3

White River Junction — Jordy Allard had four goals and an assist to lead the Hurricanes (11-4) over the Vikings.

It was another big game for the Hartford top line as Allard’s linemates combined for another six points. Tyler Hamilton had two goals and an assist while Ben Rouillard added a goal and two assists. Korrigan Allen added an assist. Goalies Richie Morrill and Matt Libuda combined for 22 saves.Hartford visits Northfield on Monday.

Kimball Union 4Holderness 0

Meriden — Wildcats goalie Sean Dynan earned a shutout over a strong Holderness team.

Roope Hirvonen led KUA with two goals. Thomas Samuelson and Mike Lombardi also scored. Bobby Young, Andy Armstrong and Jordan Harris had assists. KUA led 2-0 until late in the second period until sandwiching goals around the second intermission to pull comfortably ahead.

Girls Hockey

Hanover 1Austin (Mass.) Prep 0

Stoneham, Mass. — Bri Laycock’s power-play goal with 13 seconds left lifted Hanover (11-1-0) past Austin Prep in a battle of 2016 state champions. Austin Prep won the Massachusetts Division I title last season; Hanover prevailed with the NHIAA D-I crown.

“I’m really pleased,” a jubilant Hanover coach John Dodds said. “This was a total team effort. Everyobody played a role in this win. It’s a great win for our program.”

Mahler Meyerrose and JJ Taube assisted on Laycock’s goal. Goalie CiCi Barton made 19 saves for Hanover, which made 18 shots.

The Marauders’ only loss this season was to AP, 4-1 in a holiday tournament.

Berlin-Gorham 4Lebanon-Stevens 3

West Lebanon — The Raiders couldn’t quite hold on to a 3-1 lead, dropping to 5-7.

Grace Lindsay scored a pair of goals to help the Raiders to an early 2-1 lead. Celia Barnett added a goal in the second period to put the hosts in front, 3-1. The visitors answered with a quick pair of goals to knot the score and then tallied the only goal in the third period for the game-winner.

“The girls have been playing great,” Raiders coach Brad Shaw said. “We had Oyster River the other night and lost 2-1, now another close one. We pulled the goalie for the final two minutes and had some really good chances, just couldn’t put it away.”

Ella Lindsay and Isabella Harriman each had assists. Goalie Halle Drew made 30 saves. The Raiders (5-7) face Hanover on Tuesday.

Missisquoi 3, Hartford 2

Highgate, Vt. — The Hurricanes dropped a tight battle with the Thunderbirds, dropping to 4-9-3 with the loss.

Jasmine Wilson scored with assists to Caitlin Gaudet and Morgan Fisk. Emily Ballou added a goal with another assist to Guadet. Goalie Maggie Gilman made 29 stops for the Canes.

Bowling

Windsor Third

Randolph — The Yellowjackets were seeded second going into the Baker final, but lost in the first round to Brattleboro by scores of 136-124, 136-159 and 135-166 and had to settle for third place.

Windsor defeated South Royalton, which was down to just four bowlers, 132-66 and 134-68 to take third. Brandyn LaBarron led the Jacks in qualifying with a 237 and 216.

Troy McCabe had 189-171 and Rayce Gilbert had 135-171.

The Yellowjackets are off until the state individual meet in two weeks with both LaBarron and McCabe in line to qualify.

Hartford Third, Oxbow Fourth

St. Johnsbury, Vt. — The Hurricanes took third in a match at Gold Crown Lanes.

Hartford lost to Lyndon in the first round of Baker Bowl by scores of 137-120 and 233-145. The Canes then beat Oxbow to claim third, winning by scores of 172-126 and 125-92. Joey Raymond led Hartford in prelims with a high game of 201.

JC Anaya had a personal-best score of 149 in prelims for Oxbow. Justin Mather had a 185, Dylan Vaughan had a 153 and Patrick Mather had 134.
