Port St. Lucie, Fla. — John Millard White, Jr. died on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016, at 84 years of age. He was born in Pauls Valley, Okla., on July 9, 1932. John graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Master’s Degree in Geology. He served briefly in the United States Army; then later joined the Army Reserves. In 1956 he was employed by Continental Oil Company (now ConocoPhillips) and worked there for 30 years until his retirement. John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lucy Constance Colthurst White; his daughters, Daphne Ann White and Laura Aston White; his grandson, Charles Aston White; and his sister, Ann White De Mers.  

John was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather who had a keen sense of humor. He was an avid tennis player who also enjoyed skiing, gardening and classical music. He and his family lived and moved to many locations over the years, some of which included overseas cities in the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia and The Netherlands; and within the United States; in Ponca City, Okla., Columbus, Ohio, Princeton, N.J., Woodbridge, Conn., and The Woodlands, Texas, before retiring in Cornish, N.H. During his retirement, John became a Selectman for the Town of Cornish and he also helped to begin a new chapter of the Anglican Church of America.

John bravely battled dementia and then in his last year suffered complications due to a broken hip. He died at Tiffany Hall, a nursing and rehabilitation facility, in Port St. Lucie. John was buried at All Saints Episcopal Church in Jensen Beach, Fla., on Jan. 18, 2017. Memorials may be sent to Trinity Anglican Church, 851 Fairview Terrace, White River Junction, VT 05001.
