New London, N.H. —
She leaves behind her loving husband of almost sixty years, Robert, plus her children Laurie (Scott Maylander), Susan, Lisa (Brian Carey) and daughter-in-law Ana Weber. She was preceded in death in 2012 by her son Ken. She is also survived by eight grandchildren who will miss her dearly, Nicholas, Alec, Kate Maylander, Mallory and Travis King, Ethan Carey and Alexandra and Victoria Faircloth. She is also survived by her three brothers, Werden (Marie), Ronald (Verna), Allen (Bev), brothers-in-law Gerry (Marlene) Faircloth and Ken (Naida) Faircloth, all living in Canada.
Jean graduated from the Manitoba Teacher’s College in 1955 and taught primary school in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario. After the birth of her son Ken, she began her most important job of all, raising her children. She helped at school events, took them camping, sewed amazing Halloween costumes and clothes for her children and instilled in them the love of cooking wonderful food and the rewards of hard work. Bob’s work took the family to England in 1976 and they then moved to Raleigh, N.C., in 1980. After several more transatlantic moves, they finally settled in New Hampshire when Bob retired. Jean loved to travel and golf and she and Bob were able to enjoy both passions on their trips all over the world. When they weren’t on cruises or visiting friends near and far, they spent their time at their homes in New London, and The Landings in Savannah — both, of course, located on golf courses. A voracious reader, her Kindle contained more books than a small library.
The family would like to acknowledge the great care she received over the past four years at the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute, Savannah, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, New London Hospital and the Lake Sunapee Region VNA and Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to any of the above organizations or the Savannah Music Festival. Funeral arrangements are private. Following Jean’s wishes there will be a celebration of Jean’s life in the spring.
