The Vershire Women’s Wellness Circle will hold a free event celebrating the Chinese New Year at the Vershire Town Center on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m.
The party will include the story of the creation of the Chinese zodiac, with an explanation of some of the holiday’s food and traditions. There will be singing, horoscopes and origami.
Participants are invited to bring an Asian or lunar-inspired dish to share. The celebration is free, though donations are welcome.
Cooking and baking classes are planned for tonight, Thursday and Friday at 6 at VerShare, adjacent to the town center. Tonight’s class will make bao (steamed buns) filled with shrimp and mushroom, and dou sha bao, red bean paste. Thursday’s will make scallion pancakes, Chinese cold cucumbers and sesame noodles. Friday is for almond cookies and gok jai, pastries stuffed with peanuts, coconut and sesame seeds.
