Iris, adoptable from Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society
“Hi! My name is Iris and I’m a 6-year-old spayed female cattle/Aussie mix. I came to Lucy Mackenzie from the south, and I’m so very happy that I’m in Vermont. Have you ever seen snow?! It’s my new favorite thing! It’s almost like I was destined to live in wintery New England.
“I’d be perfectly happy being an only-dog in my new household, and I’d be even happier if my new home had a fenced in area. Truth be told, a large part of the reason I wound up in a shelter is because I kept running away. The new rule is that I have to always be on a leash or live in a home with an Iris-proof fence.
“I’ve been working very hard on my obedience training with the people at Lucy Mackenzie and I’m doing a fantastic job, if I do say so myself. I’ve made a few kitty friends since I’ve been here, and I like them quite a bit. It would be best if there were no young kids in my new home, as they might be a bit too much for me.
“If what I need is something you can provide and you’ve been looking for a new four-legged best friend, stop in and meet me today.”
Iris is up for adoption from Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society, located at 4832 Route 44 in West Windsor and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 12-4 p.m. Lucy Mackenzie is also on Facebook and Twitter and can be reached at 802-484-5829.

Willis, adoptable from Sullivan County Humane Society
“I am 3-year-old Willis and I am the biggest sweetheart ever! I love to try to climb onto your shoulders and just want to be held. They say I am hard to photograph because all I want is to love on you and will not hold still.
“My family surrendered me because I had a skin condition and they could not afford to take care of it. The vet thinks I scratched myself and got a bacterial infection that just got out of control. I have been on antibiotics here and have made great progress.
“I am fully vetted, neutered, vaccinated, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, and microchipped.”
Willis is up for adoption from Sullivan County Humane Society, located at 145 Broad St. in Claremont. Please see hours on the humane society website at www.sullivancountyhumanesociety.org and Facebook. Call 603-542-3277 or email sullivanhumane@hotmail.com.

Mandy, adoptable from the Upper Valley Humane Society
“Hi, I’m Mandy! I’m a beautiful 1-year-old. I’m a bit of a shy girl and just need someone who will take the time to get to know me. Be patient and you’ll be rewarded with a sweet and loving friend!
“I would prefer a quiet home with someone who will help coax me into my comfort zone. Do you have time and love to give me?”
Mandy is up for adoption from the Upper Valley Humane Society, located at 300 Old Route 10 in Enfield and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The Upper Valley Humane Society is also on Facebook and Instagram and can be reached at 603-448-6888.

Tootsie, adoptable from River Valley Animal Protection League
Meet Tootsie, a large, gentle 8-year-old kitty. Adjusting to the shelter hasn’t been easy for Tootsie. It has taken quite some time for her to feel comfortable and if there is too much activity or noise, she still retreats to her special hidey cubby at the bottom of her kitty climber.
This does not, however, necessarily mean that Tootsie will be a scaredy cat in a home environment. Homes have advantages of consistency. There are the same people that come and go, and there is much more time to spend bonding with those people. The same pets share a home space, as opposed to the revolving door of arrivals and departures that happen at the shelter. Tootsie may still prefer a quiet home and be wary of visitors, but chances are that she will adjust more quickly and fully to a new home.
Tootsie has a lot going for her. She is beautiful, as evinced by her Cindy Crawford beauty mark.
She is also large, and plump, and the perfect kind of cat to share a bed with at this chilly time of year.
She has black spots. Even though Tootsie is an indoor cat, she would never get lost in the snow and she will be easy to see in the window as she watches you shovel.
Finally, Tootsie is very mellow, and could fit well in a family with other pets or children.
Come in and share some warmth with Tootsie and the other cool cats we have.
Tootsie is up for adoption from the River Valley Animal Protection League, located at 60 Cummings Ave. in Charlestown and open to the public Mondays, 4-7 p.m., and Saturdays, 1-4 p.m., or by appointment by calling 603-826-3061. The River Valley Animal Protection League is also on Facebook.

Bobbi, adoptable from Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society
“Hi! My name is Bobbi and I’m a 2-year-old spayed female. I was adopted from Lucy Mackenzie as a little kitten and was, sadly, recently returned when a person I lived with discovered they were highly allergic to cats.
“It’s such a shame, but it’s OK. I’m having a blast here! There are lots of people that make sure I get lots of love every day. I have many kind cat friends that I live with here at the shelter.
“One of my favorite things to do is to burrow and stay warm. You’ll often find me curled-up in a bed or in my favorite spot underneath a cat tree.
“Oh, do you see that little tuft of fur where my tail is? That is my tail – I really don’t have one!
“If you have a home where there are warm spots for me to curl-in (laps will do!) and are looking for an absolute sweetheart to call you own, stop in and meet me today.”
Bobbi is up for adoption from Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society, located at 4832 Route 44 in West Windsor and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 12-4 p.m. Lucy Mackenzie is also on Facebook and Twitter and can be reached at 802-484-5829.

River, adoptable from the Upper Valley Humane Society
River is a 7-year-old brown patch Tabby who came to us when her owner surrendered her. She is a sweet, independent girl, and she likes to play for short periods of time. She also enjoys time to herself, sunning and napping.
River has successfully shared her space here at UVHS with another cat and seems to enjoy dogs. With a good introduction, she would probably be able to live nicely with another pet.
River is up for adoption from the Upper Valley Humane Society, located at 300 Old Route 10 in Enfield and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The Upper Valley Humane Society is also on Facebook and Instagram and can be reached at 603-448-6888.

Raisin, adoptable from Sullivan County Humane Society
“I am 3-year-old Raisin. I was begging to get into someone’s home during the cold spell. Feeling sorry for me, they let me in at night but then put me back out every day, hoping I would go home. However, I just stuck around. After about a week, they called the humane society and here I am!
“I am vet checked, spayed, treated for fleas and worms, vaccinated for rabies and distemper, tested negative for FIV/FeLV and microchipped.”
Raisin is up for adoption from Sullivan County Humane Society, located at 145 Broad St. in Claremont. Please see hours on the humane society website at www.sullivancountyhumanesociety.org and Facebook. Call 603-542-3277 or email sullivanhumane@hotmail.com.
