By the second half of Monday’s game against Rivendell, it was clear his starting five were getting the job done.
The gamble paid off as the Engineers held off Rivendell for a 56-53 win in overtime for the team’s third straight victory. Walker said he didn’t think he’s ever run with just five players before. Two Engineers ended regulation with four fouls, however, leaving Walker close to using his bench in overtime.
“Usually someone gets into foul trouble or something, and you’ve got to substitute somewhere,” Walker said.
Rivendell (4-4) stormed back with 21 points in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 51-51, assisted by the Engineers shooting four-for-13 from the free-throw line. The Raptors hit a layup with 3.5 seconds to force added time.
But the Engineers’ defense stymied Rivendell’s momentum, outscoring the Raptors, 5-2, in the extra session, all on free throws. Woodsville (8-2 overall, 7-2 league) was 5-for-8 from the free throw line in overtime.
