Claremont — Brandyn LeBarron has been everything Windsor High bowling coach Steve Bly could have asked for in a veteran leader on a team largely comprised of newcomers to the sport. Slowly, his teammates are starting to get up to speed.

Saturday, the Yellowjackets earned the top seed for the first time this season against South Royalton, Spingfield and Brattleboro at Maple Lanes. Windsors had 1,425 combined points before falling to Springfield in the baker finals.

“It’s encouraging,” Bly said. “The kids rolled the ball pretty well today.”

LeBarron led the way, scoring 196 and 189 in the individual rounds. Troy McCabe rolled 155, 169 and Tatyana Malikowski rolled 117, 152.. South Royalton took the fourth seed behind Ethan Britch’s 146, 129 and Gabe Howe’s 99, 129. Windsor defeated the Royals in the opening baker round before falling to the Cosmos 143-113, 151-129 during the finals.

“The team is highly inexperienced,” Bly said. “We had one bowler (return from) varsity last season and that’s Brandyn. Out of the gate he’s bowling really well. He’s averaging 25 pins higher than last year (and is) one of the top three bowlers in the state.”

Windsor will be at Randolph’s Valley Bowl next weekend against the Galloping Ghosts, South Burlington and Lyndon.
