Hanover — After trailing visiting Albany for most of the night, the Dartmouth College women’s basketball team made sure it had the final say in a 69-61 overtime defeat of the Great Danes on Thursday night at Leede Arena.

Dartmouth (5-7) led early in the first quarter and did not lead again until the overtime period in the team’s first extra-session game of the campaign.

Junior Kate Letkewicz led the Big Green with 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Sophomore Islays Quinones snagged a team-high 13 boards to go with her 10 points. Senior Fanni Szabo also had a solid outing in the final nonconference game of the season at home with 18 points.

“The name of the game for us today was rebounding and outworking Albany,” Dartmouth coach Belle Koclanes said. “We knew we had to play physically and tough on the defensive end tonight.”

The Great Danes (6-7) were in control on the scoreboard for the most of the contest, and Dartmouth had to overcome an 11-point deficit to force overtime.

The Big Green picked up the pace in the fourth quarter with the help of two Letkewicz 3-pointers and a trey by Annie McKenna. Albany had four tries at the foul line in the final minute with the potential of securing the win but missed all four; Amber Mixon’s late free throw for Dartmouth secured overtime.

Letkewicz buried her fourth 3-pointer of the game to start the extra session. An Andi Norman jumper followed, and the Big Green headed away with the win.

Dartmouth closes nonconference play with a visit to New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon.
