Stephen Silva, of Springfield, Mass., will be arraigned this afternoon in Windsor Superior Court on charges of robbery, possessing stolen property and aggravated motor vehicle operation without the owner’s consent, Vermont State Police said in a Monday evening news release.
Police were able to make an arrest after receiving information the 45-year-old Silva may have been involved in the bank’s robbery.
On Monday, police searched Silva’s motel room and the vehicle he had been driving, where they allegedly found clothing that was worn during the robbery and other items that link him to the incident.
Police didn’t specify which motel was searched.
Further investigation revealed the vehicle Silva had been operating was stolen out of Massachusetts. The Connecticut license plate on the vehicle also was determined to be stolen, police said in the release.
Silva allegedly entered the Hartland bank around 10:15 a.m. on Saturday and demanded money from the teller. The suspect took off on foot with an unknown amount of cash.
The suspect, who was captured on surveillance video as he entered the bank, was described on Saturday as a male with a brown mustache and facial hair, wearing a hat.
No gun was displayed during the robbery, police said.
Silva is being held at Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield, Vt., on $50,000 bail pending his 1 p.m. arraignment in the White River Junction courthouse.
