North Haverhill
The Upper Valley Land Trust is receiving a $125,000 LCHIP grant to help conserve 175 acres at Blackmount Farm in North Haverhill.
The farm owners, Robert and Linda Stoddard, raise heifers for a local dairy farm and also grow several crops, including hay and corn, and will use the money from the land trust’s conservation easement to help transfer ownership to a new generation of farmers in the family, LCHIP and land trust officials said.
The hill farm has highly productive agricultural soils, offers scenic views and is “highly visible” from Route 10, the land trust said.
The Hanover-based UVLT said it still has to raise $45,000 to meet the project budget, but hopes to complete the transaction next summer.
The LCHIP grants also included $68,000 for the city of Lebanon and Lebanon Housing Authority to rehabilitate the front portico and decorative cornices of the Rogers House, a former hotel fronting Colburn Park that was converted to senior housing in 1968.
A $10,000 LCHIP grant also was awarded to the city of Claremont for planning study for City Hall.
The two largest grants were $500,000 to the Belknap Economic Development Council to revive the long-shuttered Colonial Theater in Laconia, and $300,000 to the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests to preserve land around Tower Hill Pond in Candia.
