Newbury, Vt. — Vermont State police are investigating a possible murder-suicide involving an older couple in Newbury, Vt.
Police said troopers were called to 340 Welch Road shortly after 11 p.m. Monday after a relative of Kenneth and Barbara Welch said Kenneth Welch had called him and said he had shot his wife, according to a police news release.
Troopers went into the home through forced entry and found two people matching the Welches’ description dead at the scene of apparent gunshot wounds, the release said.
The home of Kenneth Welch, 80, and Barbara Welch, 76, is near Interstate 91, south of the P&H truckstop.
The Vermont State Police major crime unit is investigating, authorities said.
