South Bend, Ind. — Napheesa Collier scored 20 points, Gabby Williams had 19 points, 12 rebounds and six assists and No. 1 Connecticut beat No. 2 Notre Dame 72-61 on Wednesday night for its 83rd straight victory.

The Huskies (8-0) trailed briefly in late in the second quarter, but played with the lead most of the game as they controlled the inside, outscoring the Irish 42-30 in the paint and finishing with a 35-32 edge in rebounding.

Brianna Turner led the Irish (8-1) with 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Lindsay Allen added 11 points.

Men’s Basketball No. 6 Kentucky 87, Valparaiso 63

Lexington, Ky. — Bam Adebayo scored 16 points, Malik Monk added 15 and Kentucky scored 21 straight points in a first-half run to beat Valparaiso.

Needing to rebound after Saturday’s upset by then-No. 11 UCLA, Kentucky (8-1) turned a 4-all tie into a 29-9 lead behind that big run over 8:51, holding the Crusaders scoreless for 7 minutes during that stretch.

No. 11 Louisville 74, S. Illinois 51

Louisville, Ky. — Mangok Mathiang scored 15 points to lead Louisville over Southern Illinois.

The 6-foot-10 senior got the Cardinals (8-1) off to a hot start as he scored the team’s first seven points, and Louisville settled in from there, extending the lead to 21-4 in the game’s first 8 minutes.

No. 15 West Virginia 90, W. Carolina 37

Charleston, W.Va. — Esa Ahmad scored 14 points and West Virginia stomped Western Carolina.

West Virginia (7-1) didn’t slack off after a close road win at No. 14 Virginia on Saturday. The Mountaineers forced 34 turnovers against Western Carolina, a week after setting a school record by forcing 40 against Manhattan.

Indiana St. 72, No. 16 Butler 71

Terre Haute, Ind.— Brenton Scott made one of two free throws with 0.8 seconds left and finished with 25 points to help Indiana State upset No. 16 Butler.

Matt Van Scyoc scored 23 points and had six 3-pointers, both career highs, as the Sycamores (5-4) won their third straight to snap a four-game losing streak in the series.

No. 17 Wisconsin 78, Idaho St. 44

Madison, Wis.s — Bronson Koenig scored 21 points, Ethan Happ had 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Wisconsin rolled past Idaho State.

The Badgers (8-2) scored the first 10 points and opened up a 21-3 lead as the Bengals (1-8) could only muster a single 3-pointer in the opening 11½ minutes. Wisconsin led 35-16 at halftime.

Harvard 74, Boston College 66

Boston — Tommy Amaker became the winningest coach in Harvard history when Chris Lewis scored a season-high 22 points and Seth Towns had 18 to lead the Crimson over Boston College on Wednesday.

It was Amaker’s 179th win in his 10th season, moving him ahead of his predecessor, Frank Sullivan (178-245), who was the coach from 1991-2007.

It was the third straight victory for Harvard (4-4).

Jerome Robinson led Boston College (4-4) with 25 points. A.J. Turner scored 13.
