Update at 6:15 p.m.: Vermont State Police said a 62-year-old Hartford resident died today in a three-vehicle collision on an icy section of Route 4 in Bridgewater this morning.

Police have not identified the victim pending notification of the person’s family.

Police said the collision occurred about 7:45 a.m. after a westbound motorist lost control of her vehicle, causing an eastbound tractor-trailer to swerve in an attempt to avoid a crash.

The tractor-trailer then collided with a westbound Ford F-350 driven by the Hartford resident.

The road was closed for about six hours as police cleared the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

Icy conditions caused several minor crashes and closed many schools throughout the Upper Valley today.
