White River Jct., Vt. — Mavis A. Durphey, 94, a former resident of Windsor, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 22, 2016, at the Brookside Nursing Home in White River Jct.

She was born Jan. 7, 1922, in Hartland, Vt. the daughter of Lee B. and Lena L. (Temple) Hood. She received her schooling in Hartland and Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School. She married Thure R. Johnson on Sept. 5, 1942 in Medford, Mass. and they moved to Windsor in 1978. He passed away in 1980. She later married Robert C. Durphey in Windsor on July 25, 1982, and he passed away in 1993. Mavis was a loving wife and mother and truly enjoyed raising her family.

She was a member of the Rachel S. Harlow United Methodist Church in Windsor. She was fond of dancing, singing, playing Bingo and cards, and enjoyed camping. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She was also predeceased by her parents, one brother, Lee B. Hood and one sister, Dorothy Hull.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Johnson and his wife, Marybeth of East Thetford, Vt. and Kevin Johnson and his wife, Dorothea of Tewksbury, Mass.; one brother, Temple Hood and his wife, Muriel of Ascutney; five grandchildren, Leonard Johnson and his wife, Yumiko of NYC, Rachel Johnson and her husband, Daniel Nassau of Wilder, Vt., Sarah Johnson of Fla., Kevin Johnson and his wife, Deidre of Dracut, Mass., and Scott Johnson of Tewksbury, Mass.; seven great-grandchildren, Evan Dow of Lebanon, N.H., Carolyn Dow of Wilder, Vt., Brayden, Kyleigh and Adeline Johnson of Dracut, Mass. and Olivia and Noah Johnson of Fla.; and many generations of much loved nieces and nephews.

At her request a memorial service will be held at a later date with burial in the Fox Hill Cemetery in Billerica, Mass.
