Vermont’s Marlboro College to Sell Brattleboro Building

Brattleboro — Vermont’s Marlboro College is working to sell the Brattleboro building that houses its graduate school, which would be moved back to the school’s main campus in Marlboro.

The college bought the approximately 50,000-square-foot building on Vernon Street for $3.5 million in 2000.

Marlboro President Kevin Quigley says they want to relocate the graduate school in a way that makes the building more attractive for sale.

Quigley told the Brattleboro Reformer the reasons for the relocation are “more institutional” than financial. The nine miles or so between the two campuses can sometimes make it difficult to connect the students.

The graduate school move is expected to take place in the winter or early spring.

Marlboro has about 100 students in its graduate school.

State-Run Nursing Home For Vets Targeting Rutland County

Bennington, Vt. — Vermont’s only state-run nursing home dedicated to veterans is targeting Rutland County, which has the second-highest population of veterans in the state.

The Rutland Herald reported that the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington is using media advertisements and visiting hospitals in Rutland County to try to reach veterans.

Gary Yelle, director of marketing and admissions coordinator, said he usually makes quarterly visits to hospitals around Vermont. This quarter, Yelle is only visiting Rutland.

Staff have also made special visits to meet with key personnel from Rutland Regional Medical Center, the Rutland Community-Based Outpatient Clinic and members of the Rutland homeless coalition.

An information kiosk was also held at the Rutland Shopping Plaza.

The Veterans Administration says Chittenden County has about 9,700 veterans. Rutland County has about 5,200.
