Hartford Village — Police are investigating a series of daytime burglaries in homes in and around Hartford Village, police said on Tuesday.

In addition, police said, three other burglaries have taken place in downtown White River Junction. The most recent incident, reported on Monday evening, came when a homeowner surprised a man who had taken cash from the home off South Main Street and then fled, police said.

There have been 14 incidents reported since August, and in more than half of them, police said, suspects entered the home through unlocked doors and removed cash and coins, jewelry, electronics, silverware and other valuables that could be easily carried.

Police said residents should lock all their doors before leaving home and at night, and should report suspicious activity or vehicles to 911. Anyone with information about the burglaries was asked to call Officer Chris Aher at 802-295-9425.
