She was born in Sunapee, N.H. on May 2, 1914 the daughter of Joseph A. and Mary (Jones) Hill. She spent her early years in Sunapee and graduated from Sunapee High School in 1933.
Eva had worked at the Indian Tree Tea Room and then for many years had been a waitress for the Woodbine Cottage Restaurant. She also worked for some years in the dessert kitchen and Holy Cottage at Woodbine. For about seven years she had been employed by Newport Clothing and then had owned a tailoring business for many years. She had lived in Springfield, NH since 1986 and in Newport for over 40 years before that.
Eva was a former Rebekah and a former Pocahontas.
Her husband, Herbert B. Avery, died in 1974. She was also predeceased by brothers and sisters, Bessie Hill, Richard and Fred Hill, Florence Hill Nudd, Ruth Hill MacDonald, Robert, Charles, Leon Hill, Bertha Hill Kallinick, Joseph A. Hill, Jr. and Mary Hill Eastman. She is survived by two sons, Daniel H. Avery of Springfield, N.H. and Howard W. Avery of Kingman, Ariz.; a granddaughter, Cylyn M. Avery of Springfield, N.H.; a grandson, Nick R. Avery of Croydon, N.H., a great granddaughter, Hayley M. Avery; nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in Eastman Cemetery, Sunapee, N.H. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sunapee Fire Dept. & EMS, P.O. Box 15, Sunapee, NH 03782.
