Linda Lauer, D-Bath, was elected to another term on the three-member New Hampshire commission, defeating Republican Stephen Whitney, of Bath, by 377 votes in District 2, which represents the county’s northern towns including Haverhill, Orford and Piermont.
Lauer, a Navy veteran and aerospace researcher, performed best in the communities of Bethlehem, Franconia, Lyme and Orford. Whitney was able to make large gains in Haverhill and Little, but not by enough to take the seat.
In District 3, former County Commissioner Omer Ahern Jr. defeated Democrat Bill Bolton, both of Plymouth. The district includes Canaan, Grafton, Orange and Dorchester.
Ahern, an attorney and Christmas tree farmer, garnered more than 1,000 votes over Bolton and will replace outgoing Commissioner Martha Richards.
State Rep. Wendy Piper, D-Enfield, ran unopposed for District 1, which covers Lebanon, Enfield and Hanover. She will replace outgoing Commissioner Mike Cryans.
