Claremont — Alex Herzog has been chosen from three candidates to replace Rebecca Ferland on the School Board after Ferland abruptly resigned last month.

Herzog’s selection on Wednesday night by the board was unanimous, School Board Chairman Brian Rapp said on Thursday.

Herzog was named the vice president of student and community affairs at River Valley Community College in July.

The other candidates for the School Board seat were Michael Cirre, a former district teacher, and Rebecca Zullo. Rapp said former School Board member Richard Seaman withdrew his name from consideration at Wednesday’s meeting.

Ferland’s controversial resignation came after she got into a verbal spat with Rapp and Chris Irish, vice chairman of the Claremont School Board, while she was chairing the Oct. 4 SAU 6 board meeting. Ferland left the meeting and emailed her resignation later that evening, accusing Irish and Rapp of “bullying” her.

Herzog will serve the final months of Ferland’s three-year term, which expires in March.
