Claremont — A man was hit and killed by an Amtrak train in an apparent suicide on Friday.

The man, who hasn’t yet been publicly identified, was said to have “deliberately” walked in front of the southbound train around 12:30 p.m,, according to a Claremont Police Department news release.

The incident happened on a stretch of tracks between the Claremont Junction — the intersection of Maple Avenue, Plains Road and River Road — and Grissom Lane.

When emergency personnel arrived, the man was deceased, the release said.

His identity won’t be released until his family has been notified.
