Matthew Clair appeared in Lebanon District Court on Tuesday to answer to felony charges of witness tampering and theft by unauthorized taking, as well as misdemeanor contempt.
A judge ordered Clair held on $5,000 cash bail; as of Tuesday afternoon, Clair hadn’t made bail.
Police say they received a report over the weekend that Clair threatened a witness in his drug distribution case via text message, stole property from that person and then demanded money for its return, according to a Lebanon Police Department news release.
Police on Oct. 12 arrested Clair and cited him into court on Nov. 7 on charges that he possessed more than two pounds of marijuana and a “significant quantity” of hallucinogenic mushrooms.
After the arrest, Clair was released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail pending his November court appearance.
On Sunday, police said, authorities received information that Clair had threatened a witnesses. They arrested him the following day.
He was held on $10,000 cash bail overnight pending his Tuesday arraignment, where a judge lowered his bail to $5,000.
Clair has a probable cause hearing in the witness tampering case scheduled for Nov. 1.
Clair’s drug charges include two felony possession charges, including one that specifies that he attempted to distribute. He also faces misdemeanor drug possession and a violation for drug paraphernalia, according to a separate police news release issued on Oct. 14.
