Search Committee Member Resigns in Claremont

Claremont — Cheryl Jones resigned last week as a member of the city manager search committee after just one meeting.

Jones charged in her resignation letter that there was a current of “corruption” running through the process and she would not be a part of it. “I’m done,” she wrote.

Jones alluded to comments by others on the committee that a councilor has stated a decision on the next manager has been made, which the council has flatly denied. Jones expected the councilor who made the comment to come forward but that has not happened.

Jones also wrote that three residents told her the same thing about the council having made a decision when she was at the senior center recently.

Saying she was “disgusted” by being expected to play a “game of corruption” Jones said she was resigning.

This week, the committee, now 12 members, is expected to begin reviewing resumes and other materials from the 12 candidates whittled down from 38 by Municipal Resources Inc., the search firm hired by the city.
