Charlestown — eginning on Monday, the state Department of Transportation is closing the bridge over the Connecticut River connecting Charlestown with Springfield, Vt., to all traffic for five days.

The closing will allow for completion of the rehabilitation of the bridge deck by Miller Construction of Windsor, the DOT said in a news release. The bridge is scheduled to reopen on Oct. 29, but that could change depending on the weather.

Detour signs for alternate routes over the Connecticut River will be posted on main roads near the bridge, including Interstate 91 and Route 5 in Vermont and Routes 12, 12A, 11 and 103 in New Hampshire. The nearest bridge links Claremont with Ascutney. To the south, there is a bridge between North Walpole, N.H., and Bellows Falls, Vt.
