The first Lebanon Police 3-on-3 basketball tournament will take place at CCBA’s Witherell Recreation Center on Sunday, Nov. 13.
The Thetford Academy will hold its third annual 3-on-3 hoops tourney on Nov. 20.
Lebanon’s tournament will benefit the Child Advocacy Center, which works closely with the Lebanon Police Department to provide treatment and services to child victims of physical and sexual abuse.
Each team may have up to four players, at $50 per team. There will be a boys and girls division for seventh- and eighth-graders and high school players, and co-ed divisions for 18- to 35-year-olds, 35 and older and first responders.
Registration is due by Nov. 9. Registration forms, rules and information is available at the Lebanon Police Department on Poverty Lane or at www.police.lebnh.net.
Thetford Academy’s tournament is for boys and girls in grades 5-12.
There will be separate divisions for boys and girls and brackets for fifth- and sixth-graders, seventh- and eighth-graders and high schoolers. There will be a two-game guarantee.
Up to five players may play for each team, at $50 per team. Admission for fans is by donation, with all proceeds to benefit the Thetford Academy athletic fund.
TA’s seventh-graders will be on hand selling food for their class trip to Washington, D.C., in the spring.

The 2008 Lightning Thunder won three of four games in the World Cup of Nashua Tournament over the weekend, defeating GPS 2008 Navy, Best FC and South Country Boyz while falling to host World Cup of Nashua.
Quinn Mitchell, Ronan Przydzielski, Ben Ames, Raymond Menkov and Brayden Smith all scored for the Thunder against Navy, with Colin Morlock, Patrick Fitzpatrick, Henry Caterini, Jackson Souther and Miles Harrison leading the defense. Micah Jacobs and Menkov split time in the Thunder’s net.
Fitzpatrick, Smith and Menkov each scored in game two, a 4-3 loss to Nashua. Przydzielski and Menkov were the goalies.
The Thunder responded to the loss with a 3-1 win over Best, with goals by P.J. Fitzpatrick, Mitchell and Menkov. Benjamin Ames was among the top defenders while Menkov and Przydzielski were strong in net.
The Thunder finished the tournament with a 4-3 win over the South Country Boyz. P.J. Fitzpatrick, Mitchell and Smith scored the goals, with Menkov and Przydzielski again splitting time in net.
The 2008 Tornados began the World Cup of Nashua Tournament with a shutout win over WSA Windham B, then tied host World Cup of Nashua on Saturday before back-to-back losses to conclude the tournament Sunday.
Zachary McCarthy and Finn McColgan scored two goals each and Sam Bagatell and Shawn Walker each had one in the Tornados’ 6-0 win in the opener.
In game two, Sacha Palm’s goal from Yuvraj Sathe gave the Tornados an early lead, and Ethan Frechette and Bagatell added scores during the 3-3 tie.
Shawn Walker’s goal elicited early excitement in rainy conditions Sunday morning, but it was short-lived as East Bay rallied to an 8-1 win.
The rain’s intensity increased during game four against GPS White. Cooper Sobel, Ryan McLaughlin and Frechette anchored a strong defensive effort, while Peter Arvold and Matthew Lepenes scored goals. It was tied late in the game when White made it 4-3 with the eventual winner.
Lightning Soccer Club’s 2007 Comets went 1-1 on Saturday before a pair of ties Sunday.
The Comets prevailed 5-1 in game one against Hollis Brookline Cavaliers. Nat Solberg, Sam Ames, Parker Mason and Thatcher Bacon led the scoring effort, while Ames, Thomas Bugg, Roan Palm and Andrew Rudd contributed defensively. Uly Junker-Boyce and Zach Garfield split time in net during the win.
After Saturday’s loss to Best FC Elite, the Comets tied both East Bay United FC Stampede (3-3) and Acadia Fire (1-1) on Sunday.
Midfielders Dom Pentella, Ian Surgenor, Oliver Choudhury and Bacon were effective during the draws.
LSC’s 2007 Cyclones earned two convincing wins on Saturday in a competitive division in the World Cup of Nashua Tournament.
A hat trick by Gavin Munson and a goal by Benji Madory highlighted the 5-0 and 4-1 wins.
In rainy conditions Sunday, the Cyclones fell 5-0 in game three before game four was canceled due to the weather.
Wyatt Daigle and Ryan Carroll split time in goal, while Jasper Moore, Burke Pekala and Abe Pearson excelled on defense.
The 2006 LSC Fever outscored its first three opponents an aggregate 21-4 before a 4-2 win over host World Cup of Nashua in the final.
The Fever jumped on top, 4-0, in the final on goals by Zach Miles, Ian Press, Andie Mhlauri and Cabot McLaren.
Nashua drew closer in the second half, but numerous saves by goalie Henry Cotter and a stringent back four led by Cayden VanDolah, Zach Tracy, Sean Smith and Charlie Forbush secured the win.
LSC’s 2006 Flames beat Mass City FC Premiership, 3-2, before a 4-1 loss to host World Cup of Nashua on Saturday for a runner-up finish in the World Cup of Nashua Tourney’s U11 Classic.
Kai Kurokawa netted the game winner against Mass City, driving in the rebound of an initial bid by Nolan Morlock following a corner kick sent in by Adam Goodney.
Goodney scored the game’s first two goals before Mass City rallied to tie it.
Kurokawa scored first for the Flames in the final against Nashua, redirecting a shot by Christian Blix. The Flames led 1-0 at halftime before allowing four unanswered goals in the second half.
The Lightning’s 2004 Fire outscored two opponents a combined 10-1 on Saturday, then beat Nordic Soccer 2-1 on Sunday for the tournament championship.
In the final, Hugh Clark scored the first goal and caused the second when a defender was unable to clear his cross.
Nordic also was 2-0 entering the final.
Murphy Hunt led the team in scoring with four goals for the tournament, while Clark had three and Zane Schiffman, Richie Aman, Daniel Mladek and Tucker Chapman scored one apiece.
Jack Maynes and Ty Nolon split time in the Flames’ net, Nolon recorded his second penalty-kick save of the season against World Cup of Nashua on Saturday and Maynes earned the most impressive save of the tourney in Sunday’s final.
LSC’s 2004 Force team rebounded to a 9-0 loss to Mass City in Saturday’s opener to record a win and a tie over its final two games.
In game two’s 5-1 win over Nor’easter Boys South Cunha, John Reznek, Matthias Einarsson, Alexander Manning and Connor Hamlin scored goals, while Van Bailey, Wyatt Napier and Wyatt Knaus supplied assists.
Game three was scoreless against East Bay United Benfica despite the Force controlling much of the run of play.
The Lightning squad’s back line of Owen Smith, Theo Joseph, Bailey and Ryan Callaghan were steadfast to keep the game deadlocked.
Lightning Soccer Club’s 2003 Blast team knocked off South Shore Select and Nordic Boys Club on Saturday, then downed Mass City FC on Sunday for the World Cup of Nashua tournament championship.
Camden Dwyer led the Blast with four goals on the weekend, followed by Ryan Oliveira (three) and Henry Aspinwall (two). Benjamin Seiler, Jared Pugh, Tyler St. Martin and Owen Stannard had one goal apiece.
The Blast’s defensive line of Dylan Kotlowitz, Alex Stevens, Tucker Monson and Silas Nowlan helped goalie Max Ritter allowed just two goals all weekend.
LSC’s 2004 Synergy team won three tight games and played to a scoreless draw while capturing the World Cup of Nashua championship over the weekend.
After a 1-0 win over MAF Sharks and the scoreless game against the Montreal-based St. Leonard Lions, the Synergy beat Nashoba FC, 3-1, to advance to the finals.
In a rematch against the Lions, the Synergy prevailed, 3-1, for its first tournament title of the season.
Caroline Adams, Phoebe Garfield and Rachel Sites led the way in scoring, while the back line of Moskoula Kachikis, Grace Lewandoski, Ingrid Pekala and Melissa Whitmore helped goalie Sophia Bridge allow just two goals in the tournament.
The Lightning’s 2002 Chargers lost all but a 0-0 tie during the weekend’s World Cup of Nashua Tournament.
The Lightning suffered 5-0 setbacks to both host Nashua and Mass City FC Premiership in games one and two.
The Chargers and Mass City played to a scoreless draw in game three before Vipers FC’s 2-0 win in game four.
Against Mass City, Arwen Clayton and Charlotte Johnson generated scoring chances with assistance from Elli Stannard and Sage McGinley-Smith.
Lebanon
The Mountain Men are 5-1 on the year.
Against Black River, Upper Valley built a 31-3 lead before substituting liberally while Black River climbed back into it. It was a 31-27 game before the Mountain Men pulled away down the stretch.
Derek Herro scored two tries and Darius Long, Emeric David, Matt Kier and Dusty Carter had one each for Upper Valley.
The Mountain Men take on Berkshire Rugby Club (4-2) in Pittsfield, Mass., on Saturday.
White River Junction
Proceeds will benefit an area family battling cancer.
Out Run Cancer’s cheetah run, beginning at 1:30 p.m., is a three-lap run intended for experienced runners and costs $25 per person.
The event’s snail run begins at 2 p.m. and is a two-lap run/walk meant for all ages and abilities.
T-shirts will be awarded to all finishers. The course is gravel and paved and will not be timed.

The open house runs from 7 a.m.-noon. Among other events scheduled, visitors can try aqua fitness (8-9 a.m.), TRX training (8-9 a.m.) or Pilates (9:30-10:30 a.m.) at no cost. The day will also include other activities such as family pumpkin decorating and arts and crafts.

The series involves hikes along some of the region’s scenic backwoods trails. Each hike is open to all ages and experience levels; groups meet first at Hartford Town Hall at 9 a.m. for transportation to that day’s trail head.

Jan. 25: Mill Road Trail, Lebanon.
Feb. 8: Storrs Pond Ring Trail, Hanover.
March 1: Mink Brook Marsh, Hanover.
Participants are advised to wear appropriate clothing, including footwear suitable for fall or winter hiking, along with water and a snack. All hikes should end by noon and are free of charge.
