“The team has overcome injuries and persevered,” said Hanover coach Jean Essex, whose squad snapped a three-game losing streak to finish the regular season at 6-8. “They brought a lot of energy and finished off strong. (Portsmouth is) a very good team. Hopefully my girls are starting to believe we’re a really good team too.”
The Clippers (10-4), fourth in the NHIAA Division II standings, scored first, but Hanover freshman Macy Curtis scored off a Diana Schwarz assist to produce a 1-1 score at halftime. Portsmouth led, 3-1, with 16 minutes to play but Schwarz and Johanna Copeland each scored off rebounds for a 3-3 deadlock and Lou popped in the winning tally out of a goalmouth scramble.
Senior goalie Sophie Cardenali made eight saves for the Marauders. Her classmates are Copeland, Mae Butler, Allyce Good and Clare Abbatiello. Hanover opens the postseason on Thursday.
North Sutton, n.h.
Justine Martin also added a goal. Michaela Dowd had two assists. Katie Pushee and Kayla Hammond each added single assists. Abigail Duhaime needed only one save to earn a shutout for Mascoma (7-6-1), which will waits to learn its upcoming NHIAA Division III playoff opponent.
Lebanon
“We fought really hard but just didn’t play our best game today,” said Lebanon coach Deb Beach. “We dominated the entire game, but we couldn’t generate any offense.”
Hope Brown had two saves for the Raiders. Beach praised the play of Emily Hunnewell and Meredith Melendy.
Lebanon finished the regular season fifth in the NHIAA Division II standings and will have a bye during the first round of the 11-team postseason tournament.
Wolfeboro, n.h.
The two running backs picked up the slack in Reed Winter’s absence after the senior hurt his ankle last week. Mosenthal ran for 110 yards in 21 carries and scored a 6-yard touchdown. Putnam ran for 157 yards in 27 carries and scored a pair of short-yardage touchdowns.
Senior quarterback Connor Stafford was 4-for-9 in the air for 81 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown pass to Sam Ives. Moises Celaya was 2-for-3 on PATs and also hit a 44-yard field goal.
Hanover (7-0) hosts Kennett next week.
Newmarket, n.h.
Will Palin made seven saves, including one on a penalty shot early in the second half to keep the game scoreless. Lane Smith and Cade Robinson scored for Sunapee (8-6), which hosts Epping on Tuesday.
Andover, n.h.
Jon Grigull tied the game in the second half, heading a cross by Hugo Turcotte. Matt Thibert netted the winner on a penalty kick with eight minutes remaining.
KUA (7-0-1) hosts Northfield Mount Hermon on Wednesday.
Chester, Vt.
“We’ve had so many near-misses. It seems like suddenly things are starting to go our way,” said Windsor coach Andy Tufts, who called the match his team’s best performance this fall. “That’s two games in a row where things have clicked.”
Ryan Saucier made fives saves. Windsor (4-7-1) has won two consecutive road games and hosts Twin Valley on Tuesday.
Sharon
Josh Amodeo netted the final Sharon goal. Cole Ward and Trabyn Fisk had assists. The Eagles got goals from Josh King and Dylan Patel, assisted by Jake Roberts and Nate Twarog, and Brandan Palmer was in goal.
Sharon (8-4) visits Blue Mountain on Tuesday. Mid Vermont (3-6) travels to Christ Covenant that day.
Manchester, Vt.
“We had a couple mistakes that really cost us,” said Hartford coach Kevin Guilbault, whose Division II team plays home games on the Maxfield Sports Complex’s natural grass field. “It’s a tough one to take. I give my guys a lot of credit, they did pretty well for not playing much on (artificial) turf.”
Jordy Allard made five saves for Hartford (7-4-2), which hosts Rutland on Wednesday night.
Newmarket, n.h.
Katie Frederick scored the winner with 13 minutes remaining in the second half, her second goal of the game. Sydney Clark tied the game after halftime and Maryann Cousens assisted on Frederick’s deciding score. Suzanne Rickard made six saves.
The Lakers (13-0-1) host Epping on Wednesday for senior night.
Northfield, Vt.
Thetford is 9-2 after finishing 3-11-1 last season. The Panthers host Peoples on Wednesday.
Winooski, Vt.
Oxbow (5-7), which had 18 shots, hosts Danville on Wednesday.

Mikayla Stever helped set up the goal when she raced down the left side of the field, beat a pair of defenders and passed back to Mikayla DeBois. DeBois then found Carter.
Shaunna Simmons made 15 saves for the Raptors. DeBoise, Riley Thomson and Jenna Gilbert all played strong games in the midfield, according to coach Tim Goodwin. Rivendell (5-6) hosts Cabot on Tuesday for senior day.
Lebanon
Emily Ball scored during the fourth minute for the Raiders (4-10), who visit Souhegan on Tuesday.
Hanover
Hanover (3-10) hosts John Stark on Monday.
West Canaan
Keene, n.h.
Leila Trummel edged teammate Lucy Glueck in a photo finish for first place; each clocked in at 19 minutes, 21 seconds over the 5-kilometer course at Keene High School. Ella Nordstrom took fifth in 19:55 followed by Sadie Lingelbach-Pierce in seventh at 20:13. The Marauders also had Kennedy Lange in 18th and Emily Bregou in 21st.
Grace Furlong led the Lebanon girls with a 13th-place finish in 20:41. Hannah Falcone took 19th in 21:19 and Sydney Eccleston finished 31st.
The Hanover boys took fifth and were paced by Morgan Baughman in seventh at 16:38. Joseph Jacobs (24th) and Henry Mackall (28th) also had strong showing for the Marauders.
Raphael Harriman led the Raiders boys in 18th at 17:11 followed by Jake Willeman in 22nd and John Cunningham in 33rd.
Hanover
The Big Green snapped a losing streak that spanned back to early September and picked up its first Ivy League victory to improve to 7-9 overall and 1-5 in conference play, while the Big Red dipped to 6-9 and 1-6.
Senior Emily Astarita got her 1,000th career kill early in the first set, becoming just the sixth Big Green volleyball player in program history to reach the milestone. She concluded the match with a double-double (19 kills, 18 digs), while sophomore Zoe Leonard also had a double-double with a team-leading 31 assists and 12 digs.
