Hanover, N.H. — Frank D. Browning, age 94, died quietly on Friday, Sept. 16, 2016, at Kendal at Hanover.

Born in eastern Connecticut in 1922, he served in the Air Force in World War II. After the War he returned to the University of Connecticut where he received his B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering.

For many years he worked for Metcalf & Eddy of Boston, designing sewer systems and airfields. He next moved to Mystic, Conn. where he operated a marine contracting business. Frank and Jo Ann were married in 1972 and moved to North Stonington, Conn. Frank was hired by the town of Stonington, to develop and oversee operations of their sewage treatment system.

In 1983, the Brownings retired and moved to Surry, Maine. They spent much of their time in outdoor activities: sailing, skiing, hiking, camping, and volunteering at Acadia National Park. They moved to Hanover in 1996, but kept their boat in Blue Hill Bay, Maine and returned to sail for several summers.

In retirement, Frank volunteered: surveying & mapping hiking & canoe trails for outdoor organizations. He also enjoyed woodworking, including the creation of many imaginative jigsaw puzzles.
