Quechee — Former Boston Celtics player and recovering opiate addict Chris Herren will give the keynote talk at a dinner benefiting Hartford Dismas House, a transitional home for former prisoners, next month.

The event is scheduled for Oct, 23, from 5-7:30 p.m., at the Quechee Club.

Herren, who co-wrote his memoir, Basketball Junkie, will “share his life-changing story, giving hope to the community,” according to information on Dismas of Vermont’s website.

Several Upper Valley people will be honored, including Dan Fraser, of Dan and Whit’s in Norwich, for his “unfaltering support” to Dismas House and the Upper Valley community.

The band O’hAnleigh, led by Middlebury, Vt., Police Chief Tom Hanley, will provide Irish-American music. T.J. Donovan, Chittenden county state’s attorney and candidate for Vermont attorney general, will emcee.

Tickets, $60, are available at dismasofvermont.org, by calling 802-824-3660 or emailing ritamccaff@aol.com.
