Windsor, Vt. —
Eugene was born June 15, 1925, in Taylor, Pa., the son of an immigrant Ukrainian coal miner. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and following his honorable discharge he went to work as a New York City transit worker. He operated the final trolley run over the 59th Street Bridge. In 1960 he became a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 14 until his retirement in 1995
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Windsor, with whom he enjoyed 67 years of married life; a son, Eugene Stadnyk and his wife, Nancy of Boca Raton, Fla.; a son-in-law, Salvatore Meringolo of Hollywood, Md.; grandchildren, Mariel Meringolo and her husband, Michael Cronin of Ludlow, Vt., Catherine Meringolo of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Robert Meringolo of Bend, Ore.; as well as a great-granddaughter, Caoimhe Cronin of Ludlow, Vt.
Eugene was predeceased by a daughter Margaret Meringolo in 2012 as well as a brother and two sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor.
The Knight Funeral Home in Windsor was entrusted with the arrangements.
