Foxborough, Mass. — Patrick Towles threw back-to-back touchdown passes to Jeff Smith, and Mike Knoll connected on a pair of field goals to help Boston College beat Massachusetts 26-7 on Saturday.

Towles completed 12 of 22 passes for 191 yards for the Eagles (1-1) and also ran 12 times for 70 yards. Smith had five catches for 98 yards, and Jon Hilliman ran 22 times for 63 yards and a 15-yard touchdown.

UMass (0-2) put a scare into No. 25 Florida last week, trailing just 10-7 into the fourth quarter. Returning to their sometime home at Gillette Stadium, the Minutemen took a 7-0 lead on a 58-yard pass from Ross Comis to Adam Breneman late in the first quarter. Comis went 11 of 28 for 145 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.

Navy 28, UConn 24

Annapolis, Md. — Will Worth scored two touchdowns in his debut as Navy’s starting quarterback and the Midshipmen blew a 21-point lead and survived a hectic finish. Worth bulled in from the 1-yard line with 3:08 remaining after a 26-yard punt return gave Navy a first down at the UConn 17.

The Huskies then moved to the Navy 1 and took their final timeout with 17 seconds left. Ron Johnson was subsequently stuffed on a rush attempt, and the clock ran out before Connecticut could run another play.

Albany 35, Rhode Island 7

Kingston, r.i. — Elijah Ibitokun-Hanks ran for three touchdowns as Albany beat Rhode Island.

Ibitokun-Hanks had 178 yards on 27 carries for the Great Danes (2-0, 1-0 CAA). His first score came with 1:19 left in the first quarter and his longest was a 28-yarder with 27 seconds to go in the first half that gave the Great Danes a 14-7 lead. The Rams are 0-2, 0-1.

Plymouth St. 30, Mt. Ida 28

Holderness, n.h. — Zack Edwards threw for 231 yards and three touchdowns as Plymouth State (1-1) outlasted Mount Ida.

Fitchburg St. 34, Castleton 3

Fitchburg, Mass. — James Antonelli went 12-of-17 through the air with a pair of touchdowns as Fitchburg State defeated Castleton (0-2).

St Lawrence 52, Norwich 0

Canton, n.y. — Sean Richardson threw for 2312 yards and five touchdowns as St. Lawrence shut out Norwich (0-2).

Bentley 35, St. Anselm 21

Manchester — Kyle Hill’s 12 catches for 125 yards and two TDs weren’t enough as St. Anselm (0-2) lost its home opener to Bentley.
