Boston, Mass. — In loving memory of Colonel Everett J. Marder, grandpa, papa, “big papa” and dad.

Everett J. Marder, age 84, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, at The Tippett House in Needham, Mass. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Brenda, and his daughter, Cindy Calder & her husband, Jon; son, David Marder & his wife, Margaret; and his nine grandchildren, Tim, Bill, Charlie and Jamie Calder, Tommy, Becky and Hannah Marder, and Max and Sam Marder. He also leaves behind his sister, Ginger Silbert Kupferman. He was predeceased by John Marder.

Everett was born on Nov. 3, 1931, in Fall River, Mass. to Abe and Ida Marder. He spent nearly 30 years in the U.S. Army, primarily stationed in Athens, Greece, with a one-year assignment in Vietnam. He retired from the Army a full Colonel and after returning to the States, attended Boston University Law School, becoming a lawyer at 55 years old. He practiced law in Boston and N.H. for the next nearly 20 years.

Everett and Brenda moved to Hanover in 2006 and quickly became a part of the Dartmouth College landscape, auditing classes, and keeping an eye on four of their grandchildren, Tim graduating in 2010, Tommy and Bill in 2012 and Becky in 2015. Everett could often be found in his “office” in Baker Library, working on his classwork, walking around the Green or eating at EBAs.

Everett loved to learn and amassed five different degrees over the course of his lifetime. He spoke fluent Greek and was often asked to translate documents from English into Greek. Everett and Brenda were long time supporters of The American Farm School in Thessaloniki, Greece and made frequent trips back to Greece.
