TriathlonTrue Second at ITU Edmonton

Edmonton, Alberta — Hanover’s Sarah True came within three seconds of winning her first ITU World Triathlon Series race since the Rio Olympics, taking second as American women’s swept the podium at the ITU Edmonton stop at Hawrelak Peak on Sunday.

The United States’ Summer Cook, of Thornton, Colo., picked up her first career ITU win, finishing in 56 minutes, 49 seconds, with True recording a time of 56:52. Another U.S. Olympian in Brazil, Katie Zaferes, of Hampstead, Md., was third in 56:57.

Racers completed a 750-meter swim, a 10-kilometer cycling segment and a 5K run. Cook earned the victory by passing True and fading overall series leader Flora Duffy, of Bermuda, on the final kilometer of the run.

True sustained a leg injury and didn’t complete the course at Rio. She’s in the field for the ITU series’ final stop later this month in Cozumel, Mexico.
