Maybe it’s the outrageous nature of our time. On the one hand we have a much-needed plan to develop a 100 percent renewable energy system, in as short a time as possible, in the Upper Valley. And then there’s exactly the opposite: a plan to develop a natural-gas infrastructure that would delay development of Upper Valley renewable energy, create and pay for a system that (hopefully) would be abandoned before the end of its life span, and meanwhile pump more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Genius!

In response to Professor Randall Balmer’s column in the Aug. 25 Sunday Valley News, “America in Decline?” it seems to me that he believes that the worst thing about Hillary Clinton’s use of a private server was that she got caught. Never mind that the obvious reason for her doing so was to avoid exposure of her emails to the Freedom of Information Act. In view of that, it’s hard to understand how anyone can say she had no “intent” behind her careless and, perhaps, unlawful communications.
He goes on to gratuitously describe her as “manifestly intelligent,” while going out of his way to insult Trump as “the orange candidate with trapezoidal hair.”
And this guy teaches religion?

Kudos to all the organizers of the yoga marathon fundraiser for the Norris Cotton Cancer Center on Saturday. The event — called “Yoga! Take Cancer to the Mat” — was held in the lovely outdoor arena at Dartmouth known as the Bema. It was extremely well organized, in a beautiful venue, with excellent yoga and meditation sessions as well as great refreshments and lots of friendly people helping out. It is obvious that a lot of hard work went into the event and it was for a great cause. This is a keeper.

Since New Hampshire sent Kelly Ayotte to the Senate more than five years ago, Ayotte has voted at every opportunity to defund Planned Parenthood and block patients from receiving birth control and cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood health centers.
She has fought to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which would put more than 150,000 New Hampshire women at risk of losing our no-copay preventive health services, including birth control. And Ayotte has shirked her constitutional duty by obstructing the Supreme Court nomination process, which could allow Donald Trump to appoint an anti-abortion extremist instead. Ayotte supports Trump and the dangerous threat he poses to women’s health care.

We write to support the candidacy of John Garvey for the seat being vacated by Gerald Little in state Senate District 8.
Over the last 20 years we have watched Garvey’s career as a lawyer and educator flourish and we are confident that he has developed skills and instincts that would serve him well in Concord.
He has also demonstrated his ability to work across the aisle as a Democrat to solve problems. This has been a characteristic of earlier senators who have represented the district such as Alf Jacobson and Bob Odell.
New Hampshire is being challenged by a series of economic and demographic changes. The prosperity and population increases that characterized life in the first part of the century have been replaced by low growth and tight, often restrictive budgets. It is clearly a time in our history that calls for common sense and fresh ideas about how our state government should function.
We look forward to hearing Garvey’s perspectives and ideas. We believe that he will present voters with intelligent, careful solutions. We urge the voters of District 8 to support John Garvey.

In Friday’s edition of the Valley News, I looked and looked for any coverage of presidential candidate Gary Johnson’s event in Concord, which occurred on Thursday, Aug 25. I was there. There were at least 100 other folks there. Whether you agree with the libertarian ideology or not, to not even have a story appearing on page 3 is a great disservice to all voters.
Is the Valley News that conditioned to the two-party system to refuse acknowledgment of other parties? Your lack of coverage of this event says more about corrupt media than it does about any political party.

I’d like to thank all the Upper Valley health care workers who helped me in my time of need on Aug. 25.
First, thank you to the EMTs from the Woodstock Ambulance Dept. who arrived at 6:30 a.m., got me stabilized and safely transported me to DHMC.
Thank you to all the professionals at DHMC from the Emergency Department, Cardiac Clinic and everyone else who provided me with great care while always treating me with dignity and respect. I’m doing fine.
