A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday night when he crashed on Weathersfield Center Road about 9:30 p.m., police say.

Nathaniel Watkins was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from Vermont State Police Trooper Sean Reilly.

“A Weathersfield police officer had attempted to stop Watkins for a speeding violation prior to the crash,” the release said.

In an email, Reilly said “an investigation of the events prior to the crash” is still ongoing.

Watkins was 29 years old and from Weathersfield, Vt., Reilly said.

Watkins was traveling northbound on a 2005 Honda Shadow “at a high rate of speed” when he failed to negotiate a sharp right curve, according to the release.
