Norwich
The man was driving a red or maroon sedan at the time of the accident and is described as a 45- to 55-year-old male with white hair, Norwich Police Chief Doug Robinson said in a news release.
The vehicle, which possibly was a Dodge Neon with white stickers on its driver’s side and rear spoiler, sustained front end damage in the accident.
The man had a brunette female passenger with him at the time, the release states.
A preliminary investigation suggests the man crossed into the lane of an oncoming Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by Norwich resident David Hunt, Robinson said in a subsequent email. Hunt suffered a concussion and neck and back injuries in the crash and was transported by ambulance to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Hunt said in a telephone interview on Tuesday.
He has since been released.
Hunt said he was on his way home from church around 12:30 p.m. when he met a red or maroon car on a sharp corner. Both drivers applied their breaks, but it was too late, he said.
He said the driver of the other vehicle spoke with him after the crash and told him, “I’ll be right back; I’m going to turn around.”
“He took off down the road; I could hear his vehicle scraping the ground,” the 48-year-old Hunt said. “He turned up on Chapel Hill Road and then I couldn’t hear him anymore.”
Hunt said his truck was totaled in the accident.
“This is a very small community and I think that somebody knows something,” Hunt said.
