An Issue Worthy of Coverage

I want to thank the Valley News for its  excellent coverage of  the closing of the Clough Center in New London. It demonstrates the value of a free and responsible press that doesn’t shy away from reporting conflicting views and interests on important issues in the Upper Valley.

We live in an era where most decision making has been removed from the community and placed in the hands of corporate leaders who all too often make decisions that ignore the public interest. The  closing of the Clough, New London’s only nursing home, is a perfect example of this dynamic.

The fallout from the story of the Clough continues as families struggle to find quality nursing home care for their loved ones under unreasonably tight time frames.

For those who have been fortunate enough to find a new nursing home in a regional market filled to capacity, residents have begun the long and difficult process of adjusting to their new surroundings.
