Concord — A former Dartmouth College professor who was caught with an extensive collection of child pornography in his Plainfield home has been sentenced to 5½ years in prison.

J. Martin Favor pleaded guilty in March and resigned earlier this month. He was on paid leave since his September arrest.

His sentence handed down today will be followed by six years of supervised release.

A prosecutor had recommended a 6 ½-year sentence, and his attorney requested three years.
