Lebanon, N.H. — Margaret M. (Peg) Harlow passed away on Tuesday July 19, 2016, at her Harvest Hill home in Lebanon, N.H. She was born on Nov. 27, 1920, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of Margaret M. (Weston) Harlow and Elwin G. Harlow Sr. As a child, she lived with her parents and 6 siblings on a farm in Plainfield, N.H. before moving into Lebanon, where she graduated from Lebanon High School in 1939. In 1966, she bought one of the first homes built on Hillcrest Drive and capably maintained it herself, even snow blowing her driveway until her last few years there before moving into Harvest Hill in 2014.

Peg graduated from the School of Nursing at Rockingham General Hospital in Bellow Falls, Vt. in 1942 and for many years, worked as a private duty nurse at the Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, N.H. In 1967, she became a staff nurse at the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital in White River Junction, Vt. Although she retired from the VA in 1986, she volunteered there every week until she had to give up driving at the age of 91.

Peg’s many years of volunteer service at the VA are typical of her compassion for others and willingness to pitch in and help her family and friends. She was a favorite aunt to her many nieces and nephews and a devoted caregiver to her parents, her siblings and her extended family for many years.

Peg was predeceased by her parents; her brothers Elwin Harlow Jr. and Robert Harlow; her sisters Lillian Fiske, Eleanor Courtemanche, and Naomia Gibson; and her best friend Millie Hubbard. She is survived by her sister Doris Edson of Enfield, N.H. and 3 generations of nieces and nephews who will miss her quick wit and sense of humor, her candid photos of family events, and her peanut butter fudge and cookies.

Peg’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Harvest Hill for their patient and loving care of Peg during the past 2 years; Dr. Furmanski’s Senior Care Team at APD for their many years of medical care; and Bayada Hospice staff and the special caregivers from Sweet Home Care LLC for their kindness and gentle care of Peg during her recent illness.
