Hartford — The Hartford Historical Society will present a former fire chief with the Hartford Cane tomorrow, honoring his status as the town’s oldest resident.

Walter O. Morancy, 96, will receive a framed certificate at the ceremony, set for 2-4 p.m. at Garipay House, 1461 Maple St. The free public event will include stories, a display of photographs of Morancy over the years, and light refreshments.

According to the historical society, this is the first time Hartford has presented a cane to its eldest resident.

Morancy was born April 29, 1920. A story about him will be included in the historical society’s newsletter.

The decorative cane and a plaque listing recipients’ names and birthdates will be displayed at Garipay House, the historical society’s museum.
