Pelham, n.h. — The quartet of Kyla Bouchard, Ella MacLean, Zoe Onyango and Anna Stafford combined on a winning record time in the 400-meter relay to highlight Hanover’s participation in the Granite State Youth Track and Field Championship on Friday at the Harris Family Track.

Competing in the girls 13-14 age group, the Hanover foursome won the event in a meet record of 57.73 seconds. Hanover also enjoyed two other wins, with Andrew Chen taking the 200 dash for boys ages 13-14 (27.02 seconds) and Sam Murray claiming the 1,600 run for the same age group (5:35.06).

Blake Bouchard, Patrick Donogan, Iain Greger, Daniel Frost, Carsten Spaeth, Wyethe Murray, Brynne Spaeth, Caroline Loescher, Daisy Onyango and Kira Smith also represented Hanover at the meet, which is overseen by the New Hampshire Recreation and Parks Association. Hanover sent nearly 50 competitors to the state meet one year after just four athletes qualified.

Northfield, Vt. — Getting key hits from Ian Marks, Ben Aaron and Timmy Parks, the Dresden U10 All-Stars swept three games last weekend to win the Vermont Cal Ripken Northeast District youth baseball tournament.

Aaron and Parks joined a pitching a rotation of Ian Smith, Wyn Casey and Christian Blix that served as the foundation of Dresden’s victories, 12-11 over Lake Region and 24-12 over Hartford before a 17-7 championship defeat of Lake Region. Blix, Nick Reiss and Ezra Kleinbaum rotated behind the plate. Sam Ames, Zander Doyle, Aaron Nyhan and Sean Nam also contributed to the title effort with their batting.

Dresden opens the Vermont state tournament on Saturday at noon against Bellows Falls.

Dresden U12s Champs, Too

Barton, Vt. — The Dresden U12 All-Stars topped Lake Region once and Hartford twice to claim the Vermont Cal Ripken Northeast District tournament title on Sunday.

Dresden topped Lake Region, 7-1, on Friday to get started, then added 20-1 and 9-0 defeats of Hartford on Saturday and Sunday to clinch the crown. Ben WIlliams drilled three homers in Saturday’s win, while pitchers Sam Sacerdote, Josh Bucci and Ian Hedgepeth combined for 17 strikeouts and no walks in the three victories.

Max Galbraith, Mason Gantrish, Casey Graham, Colin Pierce, Trevor Pierce, Mack Briglin, John Hill, Ryan Malloy and Cameron Bonner contributed in all areas to the district win. Dresden will host the Vermont state tournament at Tenney Field beginning tonight.

On the PitchVSOA Ref Clinics

Wilder — The Vermont Soccer Officials Association has two clinics set for this summer for folks interested in refereeing elementary, middle or high school soccer this fall.

The first clinic will involve classroom instruction at the Ludlow Recreation Center on July 21 at 6 p.m., with a follow-up scrimmage clinic on July 28 at the Dothan Brook School in Wilder, also at 6. Contact Gary Blodgett at gblodg@comcast.net to register.

The second clinic will take place at Peoples Academy in Morrisville on Aug. 26 at 1 p.m., with both classroom and scrimmage clinics planned for the same day. In both cases, the cost to participate is $75, with $25 of the fee covering NHFS insurance.

Gone Campin’Nighthawks Hosting Baseball Camps

White River Junction — The Upper Valley Nighthawks, the area’s new entry in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, will host a pair of camps for youth baseball players at the Maxfield Sports Complex over the next two weeks.

The camps run July 5-8 and July 12-15 from 9 a.m.-noon. Members of the Nighthawks’ coaching staff and roster will lead in the camps, which are open to boys and girls ages 6-12 of any skill level. Participants are asked to bring a glove, hat, snack and, if they have them, a bat and helmet.

KUA’s Olson LeadingCCBA Hoop Camp

Lebanon — Kimball Union Academy boys basketball coach Mike Olson will welcome boys and girls entering grades 3-9 this fall to his Upper Valley Basketball Academy camp at the Carter Community Building Association the week of July 11-15.

Grades 3-6 will meet from 9-11:30 a.m. each day, with grades 7-9 following from 1-3:30 p.m. The cost to participate is $135 for the week, which includes a camp T-shirt and basketball.

Thetford — The Ottauquechee Section of the Green Mountain Club has a busy schedule of activities planned for the Independence Day weekend.

On Friday, Inge Brown and a ranger from the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park in Woodstock will lead a 2.2-mile hike along the Appalachian Trail. Heinz and Inge Trebitz (802-785-2129) will lead an 18-mile loop bicycle ride in Post Mills on Saturday, covering sections of Vermont Route 244, Blood Brook Road and Middle Brook Road. On Sunday, Peter Hope (603-863-6456) will supervise an 8.5-mile Long Trail hike of the Laraway Loop, a route featuring 1,900 feet of elevation gain.

Fairlee — The fourth edition of the Doc Munson Memorial Golf Tournament to benefit area youth sports programs will take place on July 10 at Lake Morey Country Club. Last year’s tournament raised $5,000 that went to a variety of causes in and around Bradford, Vt., and Woodsville. This year’s tourney will be an 18-hole scramble for two-player teams, with a 1 p.m. tee time. Four divisions of play will be set up for golfers of all abilities.
