Hartford Village – Vermont State Police are investigating whether a Hartford police officer shot and killed another dog after it got into a fight with his husky at the Watson Upper Valley Dog Park Saturday afternoon.
A Hartford police news release said a witness called police to say an off-duty police officer had shot a “pit bull” that had attacked the police officer’s dog in the off-leash area of the dog park, which is along Route 14 near the White River, around 4:30 p.m.
The police news release said Hartford Police Officer Logan Scelza, a four-year veteran of the department, was off-duty and exercising his husky “when it was reportedly bitten in the throat by a pit bull.”
Hartford Police said the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident, including “the events leading to and following the death of the pit bull.”
The police news release said the husky was treated at a veterinary hospital and was at home with its owner.
