New London, N.H. — Johannah M. (Carroll) York, 78, of Littlefield Lane, died Tuesday, June 14, 2016.

She was born in Melrose, Mass., on June 16, 1937, the daughter of James M. and Edna (Gainey) Carroll.

Johannah graduated from Salem State University in Salem, Mass., and earned her Master’s degree from Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. She taught second grade in the Boston City School System for 35 years. After retiring, she and her late husband moved to New London in 2001.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in New London. She loved to read and spend time in the garden, especially enjoying flowers. Moody Beach in Maine was a favorite spot, and Johannah loved walking the beach and spending time there with family and friends.

Her husband, Richard A. York, died in 2006. She was also predeceased by her parents and her brother, Michael Carroll. Members of her family surviving include two daughters, Johannah M. York of Bow, N.H., and Elizabeth A. York and her husband, Ray R. Williams III of Tunbridge, Vt.; three grandchildren, Joseph, Margaret, and Asa; seven siblings, Julie Nedelka of Amesbury, Mass., Mary Murphy of Rye, N.H., James Carroll of Juneau, Alaska, Ned Carroll of Redmond, Wash., Fred Carroll of Chelmsford, Mass., John Carroll of Wakefield, Mass., and Stephen Carroll of Revere, Mass.; her many nieces and nephews; and her close friend, Al Donati of Sutton, N.H.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 724 Main Street, New London. Burial will be in Millwoods Cemetery, South Sutton, N.H.
