The flag will be on display at the museum beginning Tuesday — national Flag Day — through the end of August.
The flag is among only a few known to exist. It is the only one that can be seen by the public.
The flag is believed to have been used at Fort Independence on Castle Island in Boston Harbor during the Revolutionary War. It is on loan from a former Boston family.
