Man Who Hit Randolph Carnival Ride Suffered Medical Episode

Randolph — Police say a 56-year-old man killed in a single-vehicle crash on Thursday was suffering a medical emergency prior to the accident.

Police were called to the Randolph Spring Carnival at Our Lady of the Angels Church around 7:15 a.m., after a Jeep driven by David Miles crashed into a carnival ride.

Several witnesses attempted to help Miles before White River Valley Ambulance crews arrived, according to a Vermont State Police news release. Members of the Milton Police Department and Orange County Sheriff’s Department were also in the area training and responded to the scene.

Miles, a Randolph resident, was taken to Gifford Medical Center, where he died shortly after. Police said a preliminary investigation revealed Miles was suffering from a medical emergency before the crash.

Carnival operators removed the damaged ride, police said. The three-day event began Thursday evening.

Bicyclists Find Dead Body In Ditch in Enfield

Enfield — Police say three bicyclists discovered a deceased male facedown in a ditch off Route 4A in Enfield Thursday evening.

Enfield Police Chief Richard Crate Jr. said the man’s death is not considered suspicious. No foul play is suspected, he said.

Crate declined to release the man’s identity until next of kin can be notified. He confirmed the man, who was found on the side of the road near the Grafton town line, was an Upper Valley resident.

He may have had underlying medical conditions that contributed to his death, Crate said. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

The investigation into his death is ongoing.
