New London, N.H. — Ralph W. Spofford, 79, of Job Seamans Acres, died Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at the New London Hospital.

He was born in East Orange, N.J. on June 20, 1936, the son of Warren A. and Edna C. (Horstman) Spofford.

He graduated from UNH in 1959 with a B.S.M.E. and in 1960 with a B.A.  Ralph served in the US Army as a 1st Lt. from 1960-1961 and was recalled during the Berlin Wall Crisis. He furthered his education and earned his M.B.A. from Dartmouth College, Amos Tuck School of Business Administration.

Ralph was an engineer and worked for International Packings, Split Ball Bearing, Wide Boards, Inc., and Administrative Productivity, Inc.  He lived in Hanover, N.H. before moving to New London in 1963.

He was a member of The First Baptist Church of New London, a former member and past president of the New London Lions Club and a CASA Volunteer. Ralph worked on the Troop Committee of Boy Scout Troop 71 and used his AMC membership to facilitate their White Mountain hut trips. He also helped the Troop with financial organization. He was one of the original  members of SRK Greenway. Ralph enjoyed carpentry and maintaining their Bunker Hill Farm Land.

Members of his family surviving include his wife of 58 years, Mary Lou “Mickey” (Noe) Spofford of New London; a daughter and her husband, Kimberly and Neil Doherty of San Diego, Calif.; three grandchildren, Paige, Tate and Owen and nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016, at 2 p.m. in West Part Cemetery, County Road, New London with military honors and  a reception to follow at The First Baptist Church, 461 Main Street, New London.
